Dr. Thamir (Tom) Murad

P.Eng., FEIC, FCAE
President, IEEE Canada

Dr. Tom Murad, Country Lead of Engineering & Technology at Siemens Mobility - Canada, a member of Engineering Order of Honour - Professional Engineers Ontario “PEO", is a respected Technology leader, thinker, an award-winning Educator and distinguished speaker on the topics of: Engineering, Technology and Technical talents / skills development and education. An advocate of Innovation and creativity specifically in the Areas of Digitalization, Smart Infrastructure and Industrie 4.0

In 2010 , he Joined Siemens in Canada, prior to his current role he was the Country Lead of Engineering, Technology & Academics for Siemens Canada as well as the founder of the Siemens Canada Engineering and Technology Academy "SCETA", that he established and directed since October 2014. Before that, he was the Head of the “Expert House” and Engineering Director for Siemens Canada’s Industry sector since 2010.

Prior to joining Siemens, Tom was the Senior VP and COO of AZZ- Blenkhorn & Sawle for many Years with an extensive career in Professional Engineering and Executive Management of Innovative Technical Operations including Academic and R&D work in Electrical power, Industrial Controls and Automation. He is also serving as a member of various advisory Boards of Directors in the Industry and Academia.

Dr. Murad holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronics), and a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Power Electronics and Industrial Controls from Loughborough University of Technology in the UK, with a Leadership Program Certificate from Schulich Business School, York University in Ontario, Canada.

Dr. Wahab Almuhtadi

P.Eng. SMIEEE, EIC Fellow

Dr. Wahab Almuhtadi has more than 21 years of university and college teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also has more than 27 year experience in telecommunication and electrical engineering industries including R & D. Currently, he is a professor and coordinator of Algonquin College–Carleton University Joint Degree Program “Bachelor of Information Technology – Photonics and Laser Technology–BIT-PLT”. He is also the R&D Coordinator at the Algonquin College Faculty of Technology and Trades.

He played a major role as a Member of the 2017-2022 Strategic Plan Advisory Team, Algonquin College. Prior to Algonquin College, Dr. Almuhtadi worked with Nortel as a Team Leader and Senior Verification and System Engineer in Optical Networks Verification, Optical Solutions R &D. Dr. Almuhtadi proves remarkable leadership with his strong background in high technology and engineering industry as an innovative educator and researcher, helped the College to become a polytechnic institution. He is the founder of the applied research pillar at Algonquin College that led to get $10.5M funded from various Canadian agencies (NSERC/OCE/IC/CIDA/NCIT/ORDCF/PRECARN). He is the founder and designer of a complete leading-edge Optophotonics Lab, with Optical Transport Network-OTN 0.15-100 Gb/s ($5M project).

Dr. Almuhtadi is one of the founders of the new “Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks-CENGN,” with $65M funding. He received several recognition awards from IEEE, academia and industry, to name few: IEEE Leadership Award 2010, IEEE Canada W.R. Service Award, Algonquin College Laurent Isabelle Award 2009 for Teaching Excellence, and NISOD 2006 Award), 2015 EIC Canadian Pacific Railway Medal.

Robert Anderson

P.Eng., SMIEEE
Past President, IEEE Canada

Rob is Smart Grid Engineer at Itron Inc., a world leader in metering equipment and information management solutions for electric, gas and water utilities. He performs engineering tasks as part of Itron’s Global Solutions Delivery Group. In his role he uses business process re-engineering to develop technical solutions and management processes for the implementation of systems or enterprise wide solutions using Itron’s hardware and software products.

Prior to forming SIMMARIX, an independent Meter Data Management and Consulting Organization, Rob worked for ENMAX Corporation, the electric utility for his home city of Calgary. During his eleven-years at ENMAX, he held numerous positions with increasing responsibility in management, customer service, engineering and contracts management.

Rob is active in the engineering profession. His volunteer activities include IEEE volunteer of 25+ years, APEGA Mentoring Program mentor, speaking with U-Calgary new engineering students about careers and, regularly judges at science fairs and student project/paper competitions.

Abdallah Shami

Ph.D., IEEE Fellow
Chair, IEEE Canada Publication and Communications Committee

Abdallah Shami (Fellow, IEEE) is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Western University, London, ON, Canada, where he also serves as the Director of the Optimized Computing and Communications (OC2) Laboratory. He is the Chair of the IEEE Region 7 Publications and Communications Committee. Dr. Shami's contributions to the field have been widely recognized by research and professional communities. He received several prestigious honors, including the Tanner Industry Leadership Award from IEEE Canada, the Information Infrastructure and Networking Technical Achievement Award from the IEEE Communications Society’s Information Infrastructure and Networking Technical Committee, and the M.B. Broughton Canada Merit Medal from IEEE Canada in recognition of his leadership and dedicated service to IEEE Canada.

Dr. Shami has chaired leading international conferences and key symposia/workshops at flagship IEEE events. He previously served as the elected Chair of the IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Communications Software and as Chair of the IEEE London (Ontario) Section. He has served or currently serves as an Editor or Associate Editor for several prestigious journals, including IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Network, IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, and IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, among others. Dr. Shami is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), and the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC).
