Shahram Yousefi received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from University of Tehran, Iran. Having worked in industry for a few years, in Sept. 1997, he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, as an M.A.Sc. student where he received his PhD in Sept. 2002. While still a Ph.D. student at Waterloo he instructed undergraduate courses and he has received more than 20 research and teaching awards and scholarships including the NSERC PGSB, OGS, OGS-ST, and Sandford Fleming Foundation (SFF) teaching awards.

In Oct. 2002, he joined Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada and since Jan. 2003 he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Queen's University, Kingston, Canada, where he is currently a tenured Associate Professor. Shahram was an invited professor at Ecole Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland from July 2009 to June 2010. He is currently the Undergraduate Chair of Electrical Engineering program at Queen's. He is a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO of Canada and currently serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE journal "Communications Letters". As of May 1, 2019, Prof. Yousefi resigned from the position of Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
