Paul Fortier received his B.Sc. and his M.Sc. in EE from Laval University in 1982 and 1984, respectively and his M.S. in Statistics and his Ph.D. in EE from Stanford University in 1987 and 1989, respectively. Since 1989, he has been with the ECE Department at Laval University where he is currently a full professor. From 1991 to 1996, he was program director for the B.Sc. degree in CE and from 1997 to 2003 he was Chair of the ECE Department.
From 2003 to 2007, he was Associate Dean for Development and Research at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. From 2007 to 2009, he was Vice-president Scientific Affairs and Partnerships at FQRNT (Quebec’s granting agency). From 2010 to 2012, he was Vice-President for Research and Innovation at Laval University. He is currently Chair of the ECE Department. His research interests include digital signal processing for communications and the study of complexity and performance tradeoffs in hardware implementations.
Dr. Fortier has been involved in the organization of national and international conferences and workshops in these fields. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and a Senior Member of the IEEE.
