David Michelson

Prof. David G. Michelson leads the History of Technology project at the University of British Columbia. An active contributor to the history of technology for more than two decades, he is responsible for one-quarter of the eighteen IEEE Milestones that recognize Canadian technology achievements.

He currently serves as Chair of the IEEE History Committee that reports to the IEEE Board of Directors (2024), IEEE Canada Historian (2021-2024), and Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Canada Press (2024-2026). He is also a member of the History and Archives Committee of the Engineering Institute of Canada, the Canadian Society for the History and Philosophy of Science, and the Society for the History of Technology.

Prof. Michelson’s research interests include the historiography of contemporary science and technology, the development and impact of Canadian science and technology since the Second World War, and the development and impact of both wireless technology and space technology since the Second World War.
